Foy will seek second term as supervisor
Peter Foy 4th District
Ventura County Supervisor Peter Foy announced yesterday that he will seek another term on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.
Foy, 53, currently represents the 4th District, which includes Moorpark, Simi Valley and surrounding unincorporated areas such as the Santa Susana Knolls. In 2006, in his first run for public office, he won by a narrow margin against opponent Jim Dantona.
Foy told the Acorn he’s seeking another term to complete the work that he started safeguarding county resources during difficult economic times.
“In my next term I want Ventura County to be known as the most financially stable and efficient county in California, so residents know they’re getting their money’s worth from local government,” he said.
In addition to fiscal accountability and public safety, Foy’s priorities are to instill stricter rules for public officials, place limits on lobbyist relationships and curb illegal immigration.
“Government should only do what people can’t do for themselves,” Foy said.
Foy earned points with his local constituency in 2008 when he was successful in bringing a satellite office for the district attorney to the Simi Valley Courthouse, making good on his pre-election promise to move more county services east of the Camarillo grade. He was also instrumental in hiring a community prosecutor for Simi Valley and Moorpark.
He owns an insurance brokerage and consulting firm in Woodland Hills. Before forming his own company, Foy was vice president at Sedgwick James, the world’s third largest brokerage firm.
Foy and his wife, Tara, have lived in Simi Valley since 1984. They have four children and three grandchildren. County supervisors earn about $120,000 per year.
The filing period for supervisorial candidates begins Feb. 16 and ends March 12.
