Senior center offering class on requiems old and new

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of California State University Channel Islands will offer a course on “The Great Requiem Mass.” The course is for people over the age of 50 and will be at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

The eight-week course will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 12.

The instructor is James Stemen, professor of music at Moorpark College.

The class will have no tests, grades or college credits.

The class will study the traditional requiems written by Mozart, Verdi, Berlioz, Faure and Britten as well as modern compositions by Stravinsky, Hindemith, Pendericki and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The fee is $75.
