Suspected thief caught red-handed

An early morning traffic stop resulted in the recovery of items stolen from vehicles in Simi Valley.

Shortly after 5 a.m. on Jan. 2, a Simi Valley police officer was investigating a vehicle burglary in the 2700 block of Kadota Street when he saw a “suspicious vehicle” cruising the area, according to a police report. He and other officers stopped the car and noticed the occupant, who has been identified as Blake Rios, 21, of Simi Valley, was bleeding from a cut on his hand. Police say the cut was from broken glass and that there was also blood inside the vehicle that had been burglarized.

Police searched a residence on Rory Lane where Rios was reportedly staying temporarily and recovered property taken from the burglary on Kadota Street as well as items from a car burglary that had not yet been discovered or reported. All the property was returned to the owners.

Rios was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary and being under the influence of a narcotic. He was booked at East Valley Jail.
