Marmonte League honors best of fall sports season

The Marmonte League announced its All-League selections for the 2009 fall sports season.

First- and second-team athletes are listed below.

Football

The awards continue to stack up for Nick Isham and the Warriors.

Isham helped catapult the Westlake High football team to a section championship, and the junior quarterback was honored as the Marmonte’s most valuable player.

Teammate Nelson Spruce was named co-receiver of the year with Newbury Park’s Phillip Muscarella.

Austin Edmonson of Moorpark was named the offensive back of the year while teammates Joe Frank and Quen Kantaris were respectively named the offensive and defensive linemen of the year.

Westlake’s Adrian Muguerza and Marc Palacios of Moorpark shared co-linebacker of the year honors.

Musketeer Joey Eckert and Thousand Oaks’ Richard Mullaney were co-defensive backs of the year.

First-team offensive selections are Westlake’s Michael Lorenzo, Brad Cotner, Tavior Mowry and Alex Ball; Lucas Clifford, Nick Dempster and Avondre Bollar of Thousand Oaks; Moorpark’s Patrick Stewart, Tanner Moe and Brian Blechen; Royal’s Tyler Decker and Ryan Stevens; Pat Smith, Jake Geringer and Cameron Roberson of Newbury Park; and Simi Valley’s Adam Schechter.

Defensive first-team players are Agoura’s Max Hogan, Wesley Rowell and Sam Bradley; Chris Wheatley, Tommy Collet and A.J. Dettorre of Moorpark; Newbury Park’s Michael La Perche and Nelson Duarte; Daniel Miller, Garrett Malone and Zach Hoffman of Thousand Oaks; Westlake’s Justin Solis, Max Winsberg and Michael Tack; and Shane Toth of Royal.

Second-team players on offense are Westlake’s Brenden Root-Burks; Jordan Hammond and Rickey Minyard of Thousand Oaks; Royal’s Mike Maurer, Kyle Gauthier and Connor Wolcott; Newbury Park’s Tommy Diefenthaler and Dakota Dunlea; Moorpark’s Sean Blum, Vernon Lins, James Dearborn, Brody Rohach and Stephen Picchini; Agoura’s William Snyder, Eric Kagen and Gerard Poutier; and Shane Bick of Calabasas.

Second-team defensive choices are Agoura’s Bennett Steiner; Jake Hayes and Sean Moore of Calabasas; Moorpark’s Trevor LeGore and Cameron Kiesau; Drake Exstrom, Josh Sackheim and Sean Garry of Newbury Park; Westlake’s Johnny Stuart, Shane Giraldo and Casey Bliss; Thousand Oaks’ Travis Key, Cameron Schneider and Steven Penfield; Simi Valley’s Jens Jeters and Matt Baynard; and Keith Langley of Royal.

Westlake, led by head coach Jim Benkert, was honored with the varsity coaching staff of the year, and the freshman staff, too.

Moorpark’s junior varsity coaches were also distinguished.

Girls’ tennis

Sivan Krems went undefeated in the regular season, and Westlake’s precocious freshman was honored as the league’s singles MVP.

Thousand Oaks’ Tara Erb and Alison Ho were joined on the singles first team by Emily Weisberg of Calabasas.

Melissa Baker of Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park’s Sabrina Gutierrez and Simi Valley sisters Tianna and Linsey Wilson are second-team selections.

First-team doubles tandems are Veronica Lins/Kathryn Stueckle of Thousand Oaks; Moorpark’s Chrissy Jacobs/ Keiko McNamara; Simi Valley’s Katie Crilley/Cassie Popp; and Lissa Gallucci/Sarah Contrada of Westlake.

Second-team doubles players are Anne Carman, Amanda Baltazar, Beth Spielman and Lily Bao of Royal; Simi Valley’s Casey Anderson/Devon Gersh; and Westlake’s Elise Bass/ Alexandra Bass.

Girls’ volleyball

Royal teammates Maddie Simpson and Kathleen Wright are co-MVPs in girls’ volleyball.

Fellow Highlanders Abbey Prusa, Katelyn Atkin and Amanda Soper were first-team selections. Newbury Park’s Veronika Ban, Karissa Flack and Amber Flack also made the first team with Simi Valley’s Corrine Ostrovsky and Karis Schneider of Thousand Oaks.

Second-team selections are Kasey Ring and Kayla Rubio of Royal; Moorpark’s Lauren Rohach; Newbury Park’s Andreya VanBuren; Simi Valley’s Amber Clemons; Summer Esseff of Thousand Oaks; and Chloe Yates of Westlake.

Heidi Buonauro was named the league’s coach of the year.

Boys’ water polo

Agoura’s P.J. Iannone and James Altmann shared the league’s MVP honor.

Charger Bruk Campbell and Westlake’s Conrad Aleks are comost valuable goalies.

First-team selections are Danny McClintick and Adam Abdulhamid of Agoura; Royal’s Cody Moore and Zach Graper; Thousand Oaks’ Christian Brock, Dylan Ackerman and Colin Wheatley; Newbury Park’s Thomas de Lyon and Mitch Levin; Moorpark’s Danny Lorch and Tyler Nelson; Cameron Irmas of Westlake; and Dominic Kirk of Calabasas.

Second-team players are Josh Lefkowitz and Ramsey Abdulhamid of Agoura; Royal’s Tanner Jauch and Thor English; Dominick Valentino of Thousand Oaks; Newbury Park’s Scott Griffin and Phillip Hay; Moorpark’s Jeff Markling and Zach Rutland; Westlake’s Nick Doder and Avery Schulman; and Michael Ira and Dillon Green of Calabasas.

Dustin Litvak of Agoura is the coach of the year.
