Police on lookout for DUIs
Three people were arrested during a sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint conducted by the Simi Valley Police Department from 8 p.m. to midnight Dec. 18 in the 3000 block of Cochran Street.
About 720 motorists were stopped. One individual was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Another was arrested for parole violation and a third for possession of marijuana in a vehicle.
Ten citations were issued and seven vehicles were stored or impounded. Twenty-five officers took part in the checkpoint.
SVPD has joined law enforcement across the state as part of California’s 18 Day Holiday DUI Crackdown Campaign through Jan. 3, with law enforcement agencies deploying 300 DUI/driver’s license checkpoints statewide.
In 2008, 1,029 people were killed on California roads by drunk drivers and another 28,457 were injured in collisions that involved alcohol.
Law enforcement encourages everyone planning a family gathering over the holidays to first think about how friends and family will get home after drinking during celebrations.
Everyone is encouraged to report drunk drivers on the road by calling 911. Be ready to describe the vehicle, its location and direction of travel to make the community safer into the new year.
