Simi Valley citizens don’t want a bigger landfill
Regarding Scott Tignac’s letter on “setting the record straight on landfill expansion” (Simi Valley Acorn , Nov. 27), Simi residents absolutely have it straight, and hopefully our City Council members and Ventura County Board of Supervisors do as well: Waste Management is dumping on Simi Valley mountains of trash from Los Angeles County and anyplace else the WM people wish.
The slick public relations ploy on their part cannot fool any semi-thinking person.
Like we won’t notice twice as much as trash, incredible increases in traffic, pollution, noise, water problems, destroying views and trashing our beautiful valley city. These things certainly threaten to destroy our quality of life.
They further threaten that if we don’t let them do what they want, they will spread trash toward the freeway, thereby creating a horrible view.
Pardon me for noticing, but at the same time they insinuate they are stacking the trash so nicely— practically planting flowers on top—they are fueling their trucks with residue from methane gasses. I wonder what other wonderful things are in store for us.
In no way, no matter how much they contribute, can they mitigate the destruction of our area, Simi Valley, the area most impacted by any expansion.
I think I’ve made this perfectly clear that we don’t want Los Angeles’ trash problem— and I speak for my entire family, children, grandchildren and future generations.
