Possible solution to Simi’s homeless problem
A few weeks ago I read a letter in the Acorn that basically stated that as humanitarians we owed everyone a place to live and food to eat. The letter stuck in my mind because I remember the problem being pointed out but kept asking myself, “Where’s the solution?”
Here’s an idea: What if companies that own large empty buildings like the old Vons on Tapo Street, Mervyn’s, Kmart or industrial spaces rent these to the Salvation Army or other aid organizations for $1 per month and have local businesses or restaurants sponsor a meal or day of meals?
Wouldn’t the lessor and meal sponsors then be allowed to get a tax credit for their donations?
Just a thought—better than the idea for Los Angeles of having a parking lot designated for those living in their cars.
