Package thefts spur police to issue warning
The Simi Valley Police Department recently received reports from people who have had their delivered packages stolen from in front of their homes.
The thieves may be following UPS, FedEx or U.S. Postal Service delivery vehicles during their routes. Once the package has been delivered, the thief takes the items, and the victim doesn’t discover that the package was taken until after they return home.
A pattern is not apparent as to where these crimes are occurring.
According to police, anyone who is shipping packages should mail them in a way that requires a signature at delivery or that the item is mailed when someone is present to take the package.
Anyone expecting packages should make every effort to ensure someone is home to receive them. Many delivery services offer online package tracking that can predict the arrival of packages.
Police asked that residents be diligent during the holiday season and watch for suspicious or unusual activities in their neighborhoods.
Anyone who observes suspicious activity should call the police department at (805) 583-6950.
