Waste hauler offers free Christmas tree pickup

Each year, millions of Christmas trees brighten up homes and children’s hearts.

But after the presents are opened and the ornaments removed, the once-sparkling tree often gets hauled out to the curb.

This year, be environmentally friendly and be sure to recycle that tree.

Waste Management offers its annual free tree-recycling program for two weeks after the holidays beginning Sat., Dec. 26.

For curbside collection, cut trees in half and place them in the greenwaste container or place at curbside on the regular scheduled service day.

Remove the tinsel, plastic and other nonrecyclable ornaments.

Never burn a Christmas tree, even if it is dried out.

Residents can also drop off their trees for free recycling at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, 2801 Madera Road, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Dec. 26 through Sat., Jan. 16.

The recycled trees will be turned into garden mulch.

Trash and recycling services will be delayed one day due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
