Simi student will travel to Far East
Kimberly Selegean, a student at Santa Susana High School in Simi Valley, has been accepted into the People to People Student Ambassador Program, an educational travel program founded by President Dwight Eisenhower.
Kimberly will travel to China, Bejing, Shanghai, Xi’an and Hong Kong for 17 days next summer.
By participating in the Great Wall and Beyond itinerary, Kimberly will earn academic credit while learning about the people, culture and history of the places visits.
She will take part in a variety of activities, such as learning about the Great Wall of China, interacting with her host family and performing community service with a local handicap school.
Before departing Kimberly will attend orientation meetings with program leaders and fellow delegates to learn about the destination and prepare for the journey.
Over the past 50 years, the ambassadors have fulfilled Eisenhower’s vision of a better world while gaining maturity, confidence, self-esteem and new friendships.
Ambassadors have the opportunity to journey to 34 countries on all seven continents.
Kimberly is looking for sponsorship to help fund her trip. All donations are tax deductible. She had a fundraiser of home spa for a donation of $20. Makeup and skin care products earned her 30 percent of all sales.
