Auditions for spring musical coming up

Moorpark College’s Theatre Arts, Music and Dance departments will present Neil Simon’s musical comedy “Sweet Charity” for the spring 2010 production, March 12 through 28.

Auditions will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Fri., Dec. 11 and from 3 to 6 p.m. Sat., Dec. 12, with callbacks from 6 to 10 p.m. Sun., Dec. 13 in the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center.

Parts will be available for singers, dancers and actors. Every performer should prepare a one-minute, up-tempo song and come dressed for a dance audition. An accompanist will be provided.

“Sweet Charity” is based on Federico Fellini’s screenplay for “Nights of Cabiria.” The musical was originally choreographed and conceived by Bob Fosse, with music by Cy Coleman. “Sweet Charity” is a poignant and funny look at the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance hostess who gives her heart and dreams to the wrong man.

This production will be directed by theater arts instructor, John Loprieno with musical direction by music instructor Vail Keck and choreography by dance instructor Beth Megill. Music department chair James Song will conduct a full-stage orchestra.

All cast members must be enrolled in one or more classes for the spring 2010 semester.
