Social justice seminar urges people to make a change locally

The Social Justice Fund for Ventura County will host “Making Change: Building a Movement for Social Justice in Ventura County” at two locations: 3 to 5 p.m. Tues., Dec. 1 at Malibu Hall, California State University Channel Islands; and 3 to 5 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 3 at Lundring Center, Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center, California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks.

Event sponsors are CSUCI’s Center for Community Engagement, Center for Multicultural Engagement and Center for Integrative Studies; and CLU’s Center for Equality and Justice and Center for Leadership and Values.

The events will include a screening of the seven-minute “Making Change” video, overview of the “Making Change” issues paper by authors Doug Green and Dena Jenson with small group discussion, and discussion of community organizing and volunteer opportunities

“The ‘Making Change’ issues paper and video provide an overview of social justice issues and promising community organizing strategies in Ventura County,” said Green, steering committee member. “Our December events will inform and connect people who are committed to social justice and offer opportunities for taking action in the coming year.”

Refreshments will be served, and guests will receive an executive summary of “Making Change.”
