City issues reminder to be water wise
Water use should drop with temps
      The city reminds residents that lawns need less water as the days get shorter and cooler. Homeowners can reduce landscape watering by shutting off automatic sprinkler systems during rain and when rain is forecast. City/Waterworks District No. 8 customers must reduce all landscape irrigation to 30 minutes per station per week before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.

Simi still in recession’s grip
Revenue streams lagging behind expectations for first quarter
     Though officials insist it’s too early to tell, new figures suggest more cuts are on the horizon at city hall. A continued decline in revenue will likely lead to more cutbacks at mid-year in order to avoid a potentially significant budget shortfall.

County tax collector leaving
      Ventura County Treasurer-tax collector Larry Matheney announced he will not run for reelection. Matheney took office in 2002 after being appointed by the board of supervisors to fill the unexpired term of Harold S. Pittman. The filing period for candidates will open the week of Feb. 15, 2010 and the primary election will be June 8.

Rotary to serve free Thanksgiving dinner to seniors, homeless
      Members of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise and other volunteers will serve their 19th annual traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings from 5 to 8 p.m. Wed., Nov. 25 at Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.  The meal is free and open to all Simi Valley seniors and homeless. The Simi Valley High School String Orchestra will provide music.
