Resident offers advice on watering with less

The Simi Valley Acorn ’s Oct. 16 article covering the Simi Valley water conservation program did not mention that under Level 1 water supply shortage rules, watering planted areas with a lowflow drip watering system, a hand-held hose equipped with a self-closing shut-off nozzle or a hand-held container is exempt from restrictions, except for no runoff.

It might be noted that automatic sprinklers should be set to water when there is less chance of wind, which carries off some spray.

Planted soil should be made receptive to moisture with amendments and cultivation as needed. Mulch applied around plants can slow down some evaporation. Edith (E.E.) Wells Simi Valley
