Man sent to hospital after parking lot beatdown
A Simi Valley man was hospitalized last Friday after being severely stabbed and beaten after leaving a local sports bar—an incident that police believe may be gang-related.
Two of the alleged assailants have already been arrested and booked on charges of attempted murder.
On Oct. 16, at about 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a fight in progress in front of the Pizza Hut in the Belwood Shopping Plaza at the northeast corner of Tapo and Alamo streets.
Upon arrival, officers found 21year-old Blaire Christopher lying in the parking lot with multiple stab wounds and blunt-force injuries to the head and body from a baseball bat.
Sgt. Darin Muehler of the Simi Police would not say what was used to stab Christopher, other than describing it as a sharp instrument, but he did say the stab wounds were “extensive.”
According to Muehler, Christopher had been inside Yankee Doodles sports bar socializing with friends before the assault. When he exited the restaurant and turned the corner, he was attacked.
“He was on the sidewalk talking to a girl and then he got jumped, basically,” Muehler said, noting that the attack was unprovoked.
Christopher was taken to Simi Valley Hospital and was in critical but stable condition, police said. He is expected to fully recover from his injuries.
The Simi Valley Police Department’s special problems section followed up on leads and subsequently arrested two suspects: Kyle Ramirez, 22, and Tim Brown, 20, both from Simi.
Brown was arrested a few hours after the attack and booked early Saturday morning. Police arrested Ramirez early Tuesday morning.
The motive for the attack is still under investigation, but preliminary information provided by the victim suggests that it may have been gang-related.
Ramirez is a known member of the local gang Brown Life Familia, Muehler said. At this point, detectives do not know whether Brown has any gang ties or whether the incident is truly gang-related.
The victim knew Ramirez, Muehler said, but Christopher is not a gang member.
Ramirez and Brown are being held at Ventura County Main Jail. No further arrests are expected, Muehler said.
Muehler said the department didn’t release information on the incident until Wednesday because he didn’t want to tip off a suspect.
The case is still under investigation. Simi Police is asking that anyone with information about the incident call officers in the special problems section at (805) 5836972.
