Cash raised from e-waste collection will go to schools
      The Simi Valley Education Foundation will host three free community e-waste recycling days for residents and businesses. The collections will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thurs. and Fri., Oct. 15 and 16 at the Elegant Gardens Nursery, 2046 Tierra Rejada Road, Moorpark.

Royal grad earns bachelor’s degree
      Matthew Zabel of Simi Valley has graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture and biological sciences. Zabel was one of 240 students to receive a degree at SDSU’s summer 2009 commencement proceedings. He is a 2005 graduate of Royal High School.

      Hundreds of local residents will participate in the Relay for Life this weekend to support those affected by cancer and to raise money to battle the disease. But a group of students and staff will be walking for one of their own who lost her fight this week.

Marching bands will perform
      The second Sounds of the Conejo Marching Band Celebration will take place Sat., Oct. 10 at the Thousand Oaks High School football stadium, 2323 N. Moorpark Road. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. The marching bands of Camarillo, Moorpark, Newbury Park, Royal, Thousand Oaks and Westlake high schools will perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
