Pets lead a blessed life

TRADITION—Simi resident Natalie Boyert, 5, holds up her 3-year-old poodle Coco to receive a blessing from the Rev. Steven Dean at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Simi Valley on Sunday morning during the annual Blessing of the Animals. Residents brought dogs, cats and even turtles to the service, which takes place on the day commemorating St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.
