School event wasn’t an excuse to break the law

It never ceases to amaze me that people think certain laws can be ignored at certain times (“Upset cars were ticketed at SVHS’s Back-to-School,” letters, Simi Valley Acorn , Oct. 2).
Ms. Morrissette seems to believe that an “event” justifies an intentional violation of existing laws. An event—ergo, many more people in a given area than is usually the case—has a higher probability that emergency personnel might be required than that same area would normally have.
It is a given that a crowd is more than the sum of its parts. What if a tragedy happened because paramedics could not access the event?
Laws are promulgated to be obeyed not just when one sees fit to do so. William J. Tewksbury Simi Valley
