City preparing to celebrate 40th birthday bash

Variety of events scheduled for Sat., Oct. 10

The city of Simi Valley will celebrate its 40th birthday from 10 a.m. to noon Sat., Oct. 10 at city hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road. The public is invited at no charge.

Simi Valley was incorporated on Oct. 10, 1969.

City officials are asking residents to notify interested community members, including those who may have moved away and those who have been a part of the Simi Valley milestones.

Residents who lived in the city in 1969, the year of incorporation, may come early to take part in a commemorative photo at 9 a.m.

A brief ceremony at 10 a.m. will include City Council speakers, presentations by legislative representatives and the cutting of the community birthday cake.

The city open house from 10 a.m. to noon will have booths, displays and information on a wide variety of community services, citizen advisory boards, volunteer opportunities and community programs.

Residents may also tour the police department, where an historical display on the early years of the department is on view.

Youths ages 12 and under may bring a 4-by-6-inch photo depicting “What I like best about Simi Valley.” The pictures will be displayed in city hall through the end of the year.

At 11 a.m. a panel of the city’s founding members and local historians will discuss the city’s incorporation and history.
