Simi Community Christmas seeks vocalists, musicians for annual show
The annual Simi Community Christmas, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, is booking talent for the four-day event on Dec. 4, 5, 6 and 8 at the LDS Church, 480 Sinaloa Road, Simi Valley.
The event will feature all types of musical entertainment and an extensive array of crèche displays open to the public without charge. Groups and individuals will present mini-concerts every half-hour from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Tuesday of the event. A full Christmas choral concert will be presented Sun., Dec. 6. Members of the community are invited to join this choir. Rehearsals have begun but new singers are welcomed. The choral director is Catherine Cheney. She has served as a church choir director and children’s music director for 37 years. Cheney has taught music at Township Elementary School since 1994.
For this event, Cheney will also conduct a children’s chorus, which will give two 25-minute performances. Children ages 7 to 11 are invited to take part. Rehearsals for the children will begin soon.
