Mayor to honor community activists at annual dinner
The Simi Valley Community Foundation will host its fifth annual Mayor’s Dinner and Charity Auction on Fri., Oct. 9 at Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley.
Mayor Paul Miller and his wife, Connie, will present the Humanitarian Award to four community activists. This year’s honorees are Paula Cornell and Janie Josephson, co-founders of For the Troops; George Kerr, member and past president of the Society for the Conservation of Bighorn Sheep; and Peggy Sadler of the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation.
The social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a silent auction and dinner at 7 p.m. A live auction and awards presentation will take place after dinner. The entertainment will feature comedian Kevin Jordan and the Tony Maddox Band. The live auction will offer such items as a week’s stay in Ireland and premier passes to the 2009 Chevron World Challenge hosted by Tiger Woods.
The event also serves as a fundraiser for the foundation and the Alliance for Human Service initiative, which seeks to provide charitable services to multiple nonprofit organizations under one roof.
