The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District presents the following programs for seniors.

Unless otherwise noted, activities take place at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 2900 Avenida Simi.

•The center will host a day trip to Oktoberfest in Big Bear on Sat., Oct. 10. Guests will board the motor coach at 7:15 a.m. for a narrated bus tour around Big Bear Lake, lunch and admission to Oktoberfest. Arrival back to Simi Valley will be about 6 p.m.

The fee is $73, and the reservation deadline is today, Oct. 2.

The altitude at the lake is 6,700 feet. Seniors who have medical problems that might be affected should consult a physician.

•“Sing along through the decades” are singalong classes covering the history of American song.

Session I will be “The Roaring ’20s and Before” from 7 to 8 p.m. Tues., Oct. 20. Session II will be “Broadway musicals” from 7 to 8 p.m. Tues., Nov. 17.

The fee for each class is $10.

•A trip to the Palm Springs Follies will take place on Thurs., Nov. 5.

The bus leaves Simi Valley at 8 a.m. and will return at 8 p.m. Travelers will have time for lunch on their own and shopping before the performance. The bus will stop at Hadley’s in Cabazon on the way home.

The $96 cost includes the motor coach and reserved main floor seats for the follies. The reservation deadline is Oct. 29.

•The Simi Valley historical town bus tour will be on Nov. 7.

Guests will board the bus at the Strathearn Historical Park at 9:45 a.m. and return at 2 p.m.

Local historian Pat Havers, author of several books on Simi Valley, will lead the tour and discuss the history of the city dating back to the Chumash Indian tribes.

The fee is $16, and the reservation deadline is Oct. 23.

•Ongoing programs include hiking club every other Monday at 8:30 a.m., horseshoes from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursdays. These programs are free.

•The scrapbooking club meets from 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays.

Supplies are provided. Participants should bring 10 pictures and create photo pages. The fee is $5 per quarter.
