It’s time for Congressman to call it a career

It is interesting to note that Congressman Elton Gallegly is planning to run again. One has to ask why?

He has already admitted that he has a health problem, and the only reason that he ran the last time, according to him, was because President Bush asked him to.

Never mind the rich perks that go with the job or the choice committee assignments and those fabulous retirement benefits he is heir to.

The fundamental question that arises from his proposed run for reelection is what does he have to offer for the problems facing his district, the state and the nation?

What does he plan to do about the problem of declining revenue in higher education and education in general? Thousands are out of work and can’t afford medicines or a visit to the doctor. What will he do to create more jobs and provide decent healthcare?

The nation is involved in two wars without end, and a lot of young men won’t be coming home this Christmas.

Respectfully, sir, what are your plans for ending this needless slaughter and all the above problems? The list is endless. The country needs leadership, not empty slogans.

In your most recent newsletter you listed as one of the most important issues facing the nation as where to place the prisoners from Guantanamo Bay once that human cage closes.

Imagine, not even a word about healthcare, the economy, the wars, the crises in higher education, not one single word.

It is no wonder that the Republican Party is becoming obsolete.

If that is an example of leadership then it is time for a change.

Unfortunately, sir, you have joined the party of nay-spouting ideologues so blinded by their own anger at the very government they represent that they are incapable of leadership, much less anything else.

All they seem to offer is nay on this and nay on that.

How about some proposed solutions for a change? If you don’t have any, then get out of the way or compromise and steer the ship away from the sand banks.

This may be the right time to retire, sir, and enjoy the benefits of representing the district for all these years. Arthur Hernandez Simi Valley
