B’nai Emet to hold services for Yom Kippur and Sukkot

Congregation B’nai Emet’s Yom Kippur family service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Mon., Sept. 28 at the synagogue, 9 W. Bonita Drive, Simi Valley.

Cantor Michael Russ will talk about the meaning of Yom Kippur, sing traditional prayers and sound the shofar. Each child will also have an opportunity to blow the shofar.

Yom Kippur services will be at 8 p.m. Sun., Sept. 27 at Mount Sinai Chapel, 6150 Mount Sinai Drive, Simi Valley.

A Sukkot celebration, which commemorates the fall harvest, will be at 7 p.m. Fri., Oct. 2 at the synagogue.

Rabbi Michele Paskow will lead the service and talk about the holiday symbols. 

There will also be a story about Sukkot. The evening will conclude with dessert in the sukkah (outdoor booth). 

Sukkot festivities will continue at 11 a.m. Sun., Oct. 4 at the synagogue. The history of Sukkot will be taught and everyone will have the chance to shake the lulav (palm fond) and the etrog (citron). Ice cream sundaes will be served in the sukkah.
