Mary McCaslin The second annual Underwood Farms Folk Festival will be on Sat. and Sun., Oct. 3 and 4 at the farm, 3370 Sunset Valley Road, Moorpark.

Gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Musicians will play from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The event is a celebration of California folk music and will feature some of the finest musicians in the region.

Saturday’s headliner is Mary McCaslin, who has played western folk music for 30 years. She and Jim Ringer recorded the album “The Bramble and the Rose.” Her songs, such as “Prairie in the Sky” and “The Ballad of Weaverville,” have been recorded by the likes of Tom Russell, David Bromberg and the late Kate Wolf.

Also on Saturday are folk singers from Van Nuys, Fur Dixon and Steve Werner of the neo-traditional folk movement. Their second CD is “Travelers.”

Fiddlers band Triple Chicken Foot will teach beginners how to square dance and also throw a hoedown.

Moira Smiley and Andy Tabb of the Celtic vocal group VOCO will perform.

A special family concert with children’s act The Hollow Trees will be at 10 a.m.

Sunday’s headliner is the Simon Pure Bluegrass Band. Other performers on Sunday are Susie Glaze, banjo player Chris Cairns and his trio featuring multiinstrumentalist Tom Corbett, Fur Dixon and Steve Werner, and bluegrass band The Catterwailers.

Admission is $10, which includes parking and the children’s activities on the farm. Children under age 2 are free.

Limited shaded haybale seating will be available. Guests may bring lawn chairs.
