Why Simi’s happy face is no longer smiling
The happy face on the hill that was once the welcoming entrance to the east end of Simi Valley no longer exists, just in case no one has noticed. This beautiful property was forever lost to the citizens of Simi Valley when the planning commission erroneously zoned it for commercial development, then changed it to residential to accommodate the developer, and the City Council refused to change the zoning in fear of the lawsuits that would follow.
There is nothing that Mr. Friedman and his organization can put on this property that would “make the residents happy.” The grading and removal of valued trees and the destruction of a wildlife corridor and historic ruins of an old ranch house made sure of that.
My only wish is that the housing market takes decades to rebound and Mr. Friedman and his company abandon this property as its predecessor, the despicable Larwin Corporation, did.
