Bill offers no reward for water savers

I just received my water bill from the city of Simi Valley for July 2 through Sept. 2 and was pleased to see that the conserving in our two-person household had paid off. We had reduced our consumption by 37 percent over the previous year with minimal sacrifices.

We are watering only on the approved days of Monday, Wednesday and Friday for less than 15 minutes and setting a timer for our fiveminute showers. We fixed the leak in the sprinkler pipe, run the dishwasher only when full and have cut down on flushing the toilet.

For this effort to conserve, I received a water bill of $118.19, which I thought was quite high for just two people. I am wondering if this falls into the category that if we conserve too much, the price goes up so that a certain level of profit is made, as happened with the “energy shortage” a while back?

We will continue to conserve for the environment, but my wallet is not happy.
