A long-standing tradition at the Acorn newspapers is coming to a climax again, and your participation is invited.

The deadline for submissions to the “Take Your Simi Valley Acorn on Vacation” 2009 photo contest is Mon., Sept. 14.

This year’s contest brings a new element into play: We’re inviting readers to vote for the winners online. The finalists will be posted at www.theacorn.com on Sept. 21, and winners will be announced in the newspaper and online Oct. 9. First place receives a $100 prize; second place earns $50 and third place $25.

Who’s likely to win?

The person whose photo gets the most online votes, of course, but it’ll have to be a creative shot to set it apart from the competition. Just make sure your Acorn front page is easily visible in your vacation photo and that you tell us where you are and who we’re seeing in the picture, from left to right. Also include a name and phone number so we can call and tell you when we’re printing your masterpiece.

Send your high-resolution digital photo as a .jpg attachment to vacation@theacorn.com or mail a 35 mm print to Take Your Simi Valley Acorn on Vacation using the address below. Photos cannot be returned.
