Hospital to host free prostate cancer tests

Simi Valley Hospital will offer free prostate cancer screenings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sun., Sept. 13 at the hospital’s Aspen Surgery Center, 2750 N. Sycamore Drive, Simi Valley.

The screenings will include a free prostate specific antigen blood test and digital rectal exam conducted by hospital physicians.

Every man age 50 and over is at risk for prostate cancer, the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. An estimated 186,320 new cases occurred in the United States in 2008. Some evidence shows the risk of dying from prostate cancer may increase with obesity.

Appointments for the screening are required, and space is limited. To register, call (805) 955-6899.
