Square dance club is turning 50

The Boots and Slippers Square Dance Club of Simi Valley will start the annual beginners square dance classes from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mon., Sept. 14 at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

Open enrollment will take place Sept. 14, 21 and 28.

The first night is free. Additional classes are $6.

Dick Hodnefield will be the instructor/caller. Couples and singles are welcome. The event is not affiliated with the senior center.

The club is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Members are people from all walks of life.

The club is an annual participant in the Simi Valley Days parade and has won several trophies.

The club also sponsors an annual benefit square dance for The Guide Dogs of America, which has allowed the club to sponsor 10 guide dogs.

Square dancing is a social activity with no competition. Members dance for fun and easy exercise and to spend time with friends.

New members are welcome.
