Not buying Cash for Clunkers either
It is disappointing to read the attack on U.S. Rep. Gallegly. In part because it seemed to be more of a personal attack against him and the Republicans, but more importantly because of the shortterm thinking, if any, involved.
Perhaps some people think that there is a magic money machine which produces free money, but the reality is that this is taxpayer money.
It is also clear that some do not understand that the poor and many others cannot take advantage of this program, so this amounts to stealing from the poor and giving to the rich, the opposite of Robin Hood’s example.
This means that spending the more than $3 billion on just about anything else would be better, including not spending it, as we really don’t have the money to give gifts to a few.
This program does not even require that the vehicles be made in the USA so that U.S. workers have a job and have an income.
Many of the “domestic” automakers produce many of the vehicles out of the country, so mainly the fat cat executives are the ones who get the money. I personally think that it is a good idea to encourage companies to produce products in the U.S. as it provides for U.S. jobs and provides for a better future for the country.
This program does not really work in the long term and instead just puts everyone further in debt. There will be a crash in vehicle sales after the program ends. I am sure that those who are eating at the public trough think that it is a great idea.
Look at the numbers and you will see that it is impossible for everyone to take advantage of the program, and for those of us who cannot or choose not to make use of the program, yet have to pay for it, we do not think that it is a good idea in the least. Ken Sandberg Simi Valley
