Fines are needed to combat water wasters

Regarding your Aug. 21 frontpage article titled “In hot water,” I find it ironic to hear residents like Larry Lukunich complain about the water restrictions when he is a perfect example of the kind of wasteful behavior that helped to put us in this position to begin with.

According to Larry, he finds it necessary to sometimes water up to six days per week, often twice per day. When I read that, I almost fell out of my chair.

That kind of water use is absolutely shameful, and I certainly hope that the city of Simi Valley and any other regulating agency takes complaints like his with a grain of salt.

If anything, residents like Larry should be fined very heavily, even more heavily than those owners of “postage stampsized parcels” as he calls them. Robert G. Allen Simi Valley
