Reader defends comment made in ‘Julie and Julia’

I have a few questions for Christina Powers, the so-called Independent who was “terribly offended” by that hateful film “Julie and Julia.” After I stop laughing, that is.

First, you say you wanted your money back. Were you terribly offended enough to get up, walk out and demand a refund? In my experience, any theater will return your admission if you are unhappy.

Secondly, it’s a movie. It’s fiction. You aren’t open-minded enough to allow the screenwriter enough poetic license to create a character who thinks Republicans are heartless?

And lastly, maybe Nora Ephron is right. The damage to our economy, our manufacturing base and our infrastructure that has resulted from 30 years of Reaganomics is enough proof for me to believe that Republicans are heartless.

Thirty years of putting profit over people has transformed our democracy into a government of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations.

And if Julie’s boss had been toeing the line like a loyal (heartless) Corporatist, he would most definitely have fired her. Profit over people. Sadly, we see it everywhere today. Score one for Nora. Jody Kepple Simi Valley
