Man stabbed outside popular Simi burger joint
The Simi Valley In-N-Out Burger was the site of a violent stabbing Monday, an incident possibly sparked by a drugrelated issue between the suspect and the victim.
On Aug. 17 at about 10:30 p.m., Simi Police officers responded to a radio call of a stabbing that had just occurred in the In-N-Out Burger parking lot at 2600 Stearns Street.
When officers arrived, they found Simi resident Donald Briske, 24, who had suffered multiple stab wounds to his arms and his chest. Witnesses told police that the person responsible for the crime was Christopher Moody, a 24-year-old Simi transient, and that he had fled the scene on foot.
The officers’ initial investigation found the cause of the altercation to be the result of a discussion between Briske and Moody about drug usage, police said.
After arriving on scene, police units contained the area in an effort to locate Moody. Officers conducted a search of the surrounding area using police helicopters and a police canine, but they were unable to find him.
Meanwhile, Briske was transported to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is recovering from his injuries.
The next day, at about 9:10 a.m., an anonymous caller contacted the Simi Valley Police Department and reported that Moody could be found in the 2400 block of Sycamore Drive. When officers arrived, Moody was located and taken into custody.
He was later booked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department jail facility for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance and violating parole. Moody is on active parole in the state of California for narcotic-related charges.
The department is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Detective Unit at (805) 583-6906.
