Moorpark man,70, killed by train

A Moorpark resident, Alfredo Aguilar, 70, was struck and killed by an eastbound Metrolink train at about 11 a.m. Aug. 8.

Deputies found Aguilar’s body approximately 300 yards west of Virginia Colony Place in the 14000 block of Avenida Colonia, Moorpark, according to police reports. Police had received a report that the train had struck a person.

Aguilar had apparently been walking on the railroad tracks, although how or why he was on the tracks is unknown. According to the train conductor, Aguilar had apparently fallen on the tracks and was unable to get up in time to avoid the trains.

Amtrak reported that train No. 774 had been traveling from Camarillo to Simi Valley at abou60 miles per hour with 190 passengers on board at the time of the collision. No one on the train reported an injury.

The tracks were reopened at about 2:05 p.m. The Ventura County medical examiner’s office took custody of the body.
