The Simi Valley Family YMCA will host a Junior Lifeguard training program for children ages 9 to 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mon. to Thurs., Aug. 10 to 13 at the Y, 3200 Cochran St.

Participants will learn the proper techniques to perform water rescues, deck rescues, entrances, and safety and emergency procedures.

The Junior Lifeguards will act as lifeguard assistants during day camp swim lessons. Junior Lifeguards are not required to be exceptional swimmers, but should be able to swim the length of the pool, 25 yards, without difficulty.

The program cost is $50 for YMCA full members, $65 for nonmembers or program members.

Participants should bring a swimsuit, towel and sack lunch. Swim goggles are optional.
