Community Council celebrates volunteers

The Simi Valley Community Council ended the 2008-09 year with a celebration of the volunteers who help support the community through philanthropic activities. The event was the President’s Breakfast at the Grand Vista Hotel in June.

Those honored include the following: Mary Martin of AAUW, Robin Chibnik of American Cancer Society, Clarita Barrow of Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley, Frank Cannata of LTC Services of Ventura County, Suzy Kavanagh of New in Town, John Bennett of Samaritan Center, Beryl Fischer of Simi Valley Friends of the Library, Richard Johnson of Simi Valley Historical Society, Sue Mayea of Simi Valley Hospital, Sharon Martin of Simi Valley Police Department, Cheryl Wronski of Toastmasters International, Paul Friedeborn of United Blood Services and Ray Mercado of Ventura County Bar Association’s Tour Program.

The new board was installed at the breakfast. The board members are president, Nancy Lukunich; vice president of membership, Mary Salvas; vice president of programs and publicity, Sherie Holaway; secretary, Paula Lightfoot; treasurer, Millie Gunn; parliamentarian, Greg Seymour; auditor, Lori Zafiiropoulus; and past president, Candace Skor.

The council will begin the new year with a no-host lunch at noon on Thurs., Sept. 10 at Lost Canyons Golf Club, 3301 Lost Canyons Drive, Simi Valley.

The speaker will be City Councilmember Barbra Williamson.

The council is a nonprofit organization that brings together groups, agencies and individuals in efforts to better the community.
