World Series action heats up in Simi

Free kids' event today at Reagan Library

Simi Youth Baseball is once again hosting the Shetland and Pinto World Series.

Play in the Shetland tournament began Thursday. The championship game is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m.

Shetland features 5 and 6year-old ballplayers. Westlake, Newbury Park and Simi Valley all have teams competing in the Shetland World Series.

The Pinto World Series, with 7 and 8yearolds, is also underway, with the title tilt set for Sunday at noon.

Simi is playing in the Pinto bracket.

Simi Youth Baseball is located at 789 Irvine Road, just off Madera Road near Sinaloa Golf Course.

The entrance fee is $5 per person, per day. Children 5 and under are free.

In conjunction with the tournament, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is hosting funfilled family activities this afternoon from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Games for children include knockemdown, ring toss, batting cages and pitching.

Other activities include jumpers, an obstacle course, a rock climber and musical entertainment. Children can also have their face painted, get balloon animals, and enjoy handson activities including making pencil baseball pennants, picture frames, coloring and more.

All baseball-related games and activities are free to attend.

Food for sale includes Dodger Dogs, peanuts, cracker jacks, cotton candy, churros and icees.

In addition, a special baseball exhibit will run through July 31 and includes gifts sent to President Reagan from baseball teams and players, including signed caps, balls and bats.

Regular admission rates apply to visit the museum and exhibits, including the baseball memorabilia display.

The library and museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
