Money for memorial could be put to better use
Here we go again about a "memorial" for the people killed in the Chatsworth train wreck last year.
As sad as that tragedy was, I still don't believe it's worthy of memorial status. If we're going to build a memorial for them, then why not a memorial for anyone ever killed in an accident in Simi or Chastworth or wherever?
Memorials are supposed to be for heroes—people who have gone beyond the norm, unselfishly risking life and/or limb for another or our country. The Veteran's Memorial in Lemon Park is a great example of that.
If the federal government wants to send us some money, (well, actually it's our money), then lets spend it on keeping teachers in classrooms, sound walls on the freeways or even fixing my street that has a 24/7 puddle in front of my house that I've been whining about for two years.
I agree with Mayor Miller. I, too, am not surprised when bureaucrats make bad decisions. If the mayor wants to see some of those people, all he has to do when he goes to his next City Council meeting is look right and left and in the mirror.
To prove I'm not the evil demon I will be portrayed as by some people, I'm willing to donate my own money to the memorial. Bob Witherspoon Simi Valley
