County school districts receive funds to purchase new meal preparation equipment
Federal grant expected to improve food services at 4 Simi elementaries
      Cafeteria food just might taste a little better this fall for students at some Ventura County schools. Earlier this month, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced that 242 school districts throughout the state would share a $12.8-million grant to buy new food preparation equipment.

      The Department of Veterans Affairs is accepting applications for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The bill is a new education benefit for veterans, military members, reservists and National Guard members who have served on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001.

Teen apprentices selected for Kingsmen Shakespeare program
      Eight teens have been selected as Rhodes junior apprentices for the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival at California Lutheran University. The program is named in honor of Rick Rhodes, an Emmy-winning composer from Oak Park who coordinated the curriculum for many years before he died in 2005 from a brain tumor.
