Battle over barking rages on
Congratulations, James George, concerning your letter about Simi's barking dog situation (Acorn, June 12).
In all my years on the planet I've never seen one person take one issue and so totally trash it with falsehoods, derogatory remarks and outright lies.
The real truth starting from the top is as follows: First, the Acorn didn't run a series of articles; in fact, they only ran one article after the City Council meeting that they attended.
The first mention of barking dogs was a letter from a lady complaining about the dogs in her neighborhood. At the same time, I had become frustrated by county Animal Control to the extent I went to the city manager's office to obtain a copy of the complaint form, since I was unable to get a copy from Animal Control.
Because of this frustration I wrote a letter to the Acorn requesting all concerned citizens with barking dog problems to contact me. My second letter to the Acorn was in response to the number of people contacting me, and I requested that they come to the City Council meeting on May 11.
As for the fines, many were proposed, from $25 to as high as $1,000. These were suggestions by outraged citizens speaking out for their right to enjoy their homes.
Your total falsehood about your neighbor filing a complaint against you and four of your neighbors is inflammatory and derogatory to her and all residents. The very reason you stated is why we need a new system.
Five of you in one neighborhood have barking dogs, and your attitude is that she is the troublemaker because she wants to enjoy her home in peace and quiet. Your attitude is that you are the only ones entitled to rights.
Lastly, Animal Control is contracted by the city to respond to barking dogs, which they have refused to do.
Our tax dollars are paying for this, and we are fed up with the poor service. People like you think that you can do whatever you want with impunity. Face this fact, sir; you are the problem, not us.
I've been a resident of Simi Valley for more than 30 years and have served on many committees and organizations; therefore working on another one is just fine with me. Many people can attest to my doggedness when I get involved, and I do not scare. Jules Rabalais Simi Valley
