Council should appeal decision on Candlelight

As someone involved as a citizen since early March on the Candlelight restaurant/bar, I was surprised at the Planning Commission's latest action.

I was surprised to see how many people were for the project moving forward, including one of the harshest critics they had. Most of the people that spoke that night suggested that Candlelight had gone above and beyond what was asked of them and were willing to give them a chance.

I was especially surprised at Commissioner Mashburn making a statement that "It was too little, too late." Too late? How does a business guess what will happen with his neighbors? When a business hears complaints and works diligently to satisfy the neighbors and city staff, how is it "too little"?

I won't suggest Mr. Mashburn had already made up his mind without hearing all the evidence, but I will suggest, when it's appealed, that the City Council uses the levelheaded thinking they always do and give this business a shot at being successful. All conditions agreed to? Check. A business trying to be a good neighbor? Check.
