Get out of the heat and in the swim at public pools

When the going gets hot, the hot go to the pool. Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District has two pools in Simi Valley open for public swimming during the summer months.

The cost for public open swim sessions is $3 per person. Summer swim passes for individuals and families may be purchased at the pool.

Lifeguards are on duty during all swim activities.

Rancho Pool at 1765 Royal Ave. is an Olympic-sized heated outdoor pool with three diving boards. The pool depth goes from 3½ to 15 feet.

The pool is open from June 18 through Aug. 23, including July 4.

Pool hours for open swim are 1 to 3:30 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 4 p.m. weekends.

Sycamore Drive Pool at 1692 Sycamore Drive is an outdoor heated pool, 28 by 45 feet with a tiny tot wading pool.

The site has barbecues, picnic tables and a playground.

The pool is open June 20 through Aug. 22 and will be closed July 4.

Pool hours are 1 to 3:30 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The pool is closed Sundays.

Rancho Pool hosts Summer "Dive-In" Movie Nights. Patrons may swim and play in the water or sit on the grass to watch animated films on a 24foot screen on July 11 and Aug. 8. Water playtime will open at 6 p.m. The film will begin after dusk, and the pool will close at 10 p.m.

The cost is $3 per person. Children under 2 are free.
