Signs offer differing spellings

"Please note that the Tonopah Court street name signs in the Indian Hills area of Simi Valley are spelled differently. The sign as I drive south on Yosemite is Tonopaw Court, while the sign driving north is Tonopah Court. I believe the correct spelling for the street is Tonopah. We can't have it both ways!"

—Rachel, Simi Valley

You're right, Rachel, the correct spelling is Tonopah, not Tonopaw.

Ron Fuchiwaki, director of public works, told the Simi Valley Acorn this week that the city has been made aware of the spelling error and has already made a temporary fix to the southboundfacing sign on Yosemite.

"We've covered the wrong letter and stenciled in the correct letter—I've been told it doesn't look too bad," Fuchiwaki said. "We'll get around to ordering a permanent replacement here in the future."

The cost of a replacement sign is around $300.

Fuchiwaki acknowledged that these mistakes do happen from time to time, and that the public can let the city know about them by sending an e-mail to publicworks@simivalley.org.
