A Lancaster resident fled police after being pulled over for a red light violation, resulting in a collision on an offramp which sent the Simi Valley police officer to the hospital.

On June 11, Robert Wood, 18, of Lancaster was stopped by Officer Jeffrey Quatararo at Rosemary Street and Whitcomb Avenue for an alleged red light violation.

Wood fled in his vehicle, according to the police report, and eventually entered the westbound 118 Freeway at Sycamore Drive and exited at Erringer Road.

Quatararo followed and was in the No. 2 lane of the Erringer offramp when another driver, Alyssa Dewaard, 22, changed lanes in front of his car and was rearended. Dewaard's vehicle spun out on the offramp, but she was not injured. Quatararo was in pain and was sent to Simi Valley Hospital, where he was treated and released.

A short time later, another police officer saw Wood's vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Torrance Street, where Wood was removing the license plate from his vehicle, according to the report. Wood was arrested and charged with felony evading.

The traffic collision is being investigated by the CHP.
