Please obey the posted rules at the dog park

I, for one, am so tired of reading complaints about the Simi Dog Park.

We here in Simi Valley are very blessed to have the dog park. Even with all the budget cuts, the park district still chose to follow through with building it and making all the necessary adjustments.

My issues are not with the park district but with some of the people who come to the park.

I would just love to know why some people seem to believe that the prominently displayed signs that state "No Children Under 6 Allowed" somehow don't apply to their children. Please stop arguing with the staff when they try and enforce this rule, as it applies to everyone, including you.

The big dog side especially is for dogs, not your children. Babies and toddlers aren't allowed in for a reason. Small children could be severely injured due to running/playing dogs.

Parents should be more responsible in caring for their children as well as their pets. If parents choose to bring their children, they should teach the kids manners around dogs (i.e., no running, no grabbing tails and no petting dogs they don't know are 100 percent child-friendly).

Furthermore, puppies under 5 months aren't allowed. Puppies could develop serious illnesses if exposed to other dogs before being properly immunized (including all one-year shots and rabies).

Also, please quit bringing dogs you can't control into the dog park. Most everyone that is a regular at the park follows the rules, watching and picking up after their dogs.

It was so nicely kept at the beginning, but as people are getting lazier about being responsible for their dogs, the piles are adding up.

By not following the rules, people are putting their loved ones, humans and pets, as well as others, in danger. The rules are not there to upset anyone—they're there to protect everyone. We should be working together as a community to help keep the Simi Dog Park as pristine as possible.

But most of all, please stop griping about what the parks department is or isn't doing, as they are at least making an effort.

The vast majority of us greatly appreciate the wonderful work the park district is doing to create a safe and fun environment for our dogs. Sheri Zison Simi Valley
