Local AAUW names five girls to attend math/science camp

The Simi branch of the American Association of University Women has selected this year's group to attend Tech Trek, a prestigious one-week math and science summer scholarship camp for girls entering eighth grade.

Melody Sonnemann, Dharti Tarapara and Serena Marikar of Hillside Middle School as well as Melissa Gonzalez and Michelle Arnold of Valley View Middle School were chosen after an interview process.

Amanda Woodhouse from Valley View and Raquel Bonilla from Sinaloa Middle School were selected as alternates.

The students were nominated for the honor by their math and science teachers.

Tech Trek runs from July 26 to Aug. 1 at UC Santa Barbara.
