Youth Council recruiting new members

Simi Valley residents ages 13 to 18 may apply for a one-year term of office on the Simi Valley Youth Council. Meetings begin in September.

The council meets from 5 to 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the school year in the City Hall community room, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road. Meetings are open to the public.

The council is made up of 24 middle and high school youths who serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council on issues relating to youth. The members participate in city government, conduct special projects and advise the City Council on the needs and concerns of the city's youth.

The Youth Council hosts an annual Youth Summit to encourage young people to participate in volunteerism and service. Youth Council representatives provide monthly activities reports at the City Council meetings.

Application forms are available at City Hall, the Development Services building, the Simi Valley Library, local middle and high schools and at www .simivalley.org/youthcouncil.
