It's the dogs, not the park, that need fixing

I have visited the Simi Dog Park numerous times with my dog. I am a professional dog behaviorist, and in my opinion it is not the dog park that needs to be changed.

Every concern dog owners have about the dog park is not the park district's responsibility; it is the responsibility of the dog owner to keep their dog safe.

I have seen plenty of dog fights at the dog park that you can only blame on the irresponsible dog owner. If your dog instigates fights or is fear aggressive, please do not bring your dog to the dog park.

Also, keep in mind dogs that are not neutered cause a higher risk of dog fights.

Do follow or keep an eye on your dog at the park because it is up to you to keep your dog safe and pick up after it.

It is up to you to make sure your dog has all its vaccinations, and if they are not spayed and are in heat do not bring your dog.

It is up to us as responsible dog owners and residents to give the Simi Dog Park a good reputation. Please spay and neuter your pets. Bethany Hale-Pearson Simi Valley
