Solo exhibit on display at college

2009-03-20 / Schools

The Art Gallery at Moorpark College is presenting "Sightseeing the Ubiquitous," a solo exhibition featuring the drawings and ceramic works of Mary Jean Mallman. The exhibit runs through April 17.

Mallman documents her travels around Los Angeles by drawing telephone poles, power lines, and cellphone towers, finding herself drawn to these items not only for the strange contrast and interplay they have with the landscape but for how these objects are simultaneously pervasive and aesthetically disregarded.

Mallman received her master's of fine arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art and has exhibited nationally since 1992. She is an instructor and studio supervisor at Live Oak Ceramic Studio Manhattan Beach. Mallman lives and works in Los Angeles.
